Welcome to my home. Well, it isn't actually my home, it is my mother's. My mom is 87, and two years ago when she began to experience some health issues I came to help her. Two years later I am still here. My home is packed up and stored in North Carolina. So for those of you who may have wondered why, as someone who loves to decorate, I haven't shared photos of my spaces, this is why.
I had actually planned to move to Atlanta this month to be near my daughters and two grandchildren, but my oldest sister, who is the only one here to help, is experiencing major health issues of her own. So I will be here for a while longer than planned, but as someone who is in the Autumn of her life, I can tell you that life has many twists and turns. We just have to believe that we are where we are meant to be in that particular moment.
So, my mother and I have very different decorating styles. As you all know, I love vintage farmhouse and cottage decor. My mother has never been a lover of antiques and prefers leather sofas and chairs. I love soft sheer curtains blowing in the breeze,. My mother has mini blinds and thinks if I open the windows I am trying to kill her. I like natural Autumn decor. She likes laser light pumpkins on the counter. So, as she is 87 and it is her house, I suck it up the best I can.
We have added some Halloween touches, inside....
and a scarecrow has gone up in the secret garden to try and keep the blackbirds from eating all of the birdseed. Ha! They just land on it and laugh at us. As you can see from the photo, the bird feeders are once again empty.
So, I will continue to blog, as I have been, and hopefully, in the near future, I will once again be in my own home and decorating to my heart's content.
For now, I am simply enjoying the Autumn of my life and this time with my mother and sister.

Life certainly has its twists and turns. My best wishes to you, your mom and sister. The pictures are lovely. The autumn scenes are awesome. Take care.
ReplyDeleteBless you for putting your mother's needs ahead of your own. I don't think you will ever regret it.
ReplyDeleteyou are very ready for fall... well done.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully written, Laura. I never imagined I'd be at the place I am right now at this time of my life either. One day at a time, is a good thing and they go by so fast. Who knows what tomorrow will bring .. Hopefully all good. Enjoy your mom and sister time. Your blog posts are always lovely no matter what you post about. Sue
ReplyDeleteI love your secret garden. Maybe I'll have one of my own someday...
ReplyDeleteLaura; I love your blog--appreciate you more now than you'll ever know. Family comes first and you've put your heart there. What I love about your blog/thoughts--you share similar tastes and domestic bliss that I love too--your photos from other sources have absolutely given me great ideas and inspiration. Enjoyed your touches of autumn and the garden.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos! I love that HUGE bucket of mums by the door.
ReplyDeleteMy bird feeders are perpetually empty. If you make it to Atlanta, let me know, that is where I call home... at least for now. My best to your mom and sister.
ReplyDeleteWell, laser light pumpkins have their place, too! We all need a chuckle. andrea@townandprairie
ReplyDeleteLaura, you are so wonderful to be doing what you are doing.... it will be your time again one day and you'll be happy you did what you did. I have been there and totally understand. The splashes you've done to make yourself and your mothers days better, is wonderful. Bless you and hugs!

I discovered a month or so ago that I am not cut out of the caregiver mode when my mother had her gall bladder taken out and came here to recover. I know this time will come before long but I am not looking forward to it. You have a great attitude about the whole thing. I hope I can muster the same one when my time comes!
