is this the south

welcome to the south...a place of beauty and gentility...a place of hot summer days where hospitality is always in vogue....a place of  "NEVER ENDING SNOW?"  where are we Dorothy? and where can we go to surrender?

i would love to go out and take pictures of yet another snowfall, but as i am fighting some kind of virus i thought i would just borrow some images from others who are feeling hardier than i am at the moment. yes kentucky is beautiful in the snow, but really?

nothing prettier than our horse farms at any time of the year.

no, this is not my home and i definitely would not want to pay the heating bill.

okay. this says it's from vancouver, canada, but i feel sure this guy immigrated from eastern kentucky.

and we kentuckians certainly have our ways to warm up when we head back indoors. in fact a good old fashioned hot toddy is sounding pretty good to me right now.

i hope you have a warm and wonderful day today.

everything's coming up roses

everyone knows that we southerners love our roses. no matter where we lived, my dad always had a rose garden so that we could have fresh roses throughout the growing season. there is nothing like a fresh bouquet to brighten up your room anytime of the year, but with valentine's day on the horizon our minds especially turn to thoughts of that special flower.

roses are a decorating staple for romantic cottage and shabby chic homes.  so to get you thinking about valentines and the sweetness of roses I thought I would share some of my favorite finds.

a very girlie room corner with its fresh white paint, rosey slip covered chair , and a fresh bouquet of roses. I could see myself curled up here with a cup of tea and a good book.

how about lunch with that special someone. nothing is prettier yet more simple than a small bouquet of fresh roses paired with a vintage silver pitcher.

what could be prettier than rambling roses climbing the side of an old stone home.

or my favorite. a profusion of roses tumbling over a white picket fence.

the best laid plans

Do you ever have one of those days, where you have your whole day planned and then something happens and it all goes to you know where? Well today was one of those for me. I got up early and had my whole day planned to get lots of work done. It started out great. I listed a couple of new finds in my shop, and started to sort out things that I planned to take to a couple of auction houses here.  Then I decided I would write a blog post.

UH OH!!!

That was when I managed to infect my computer with some horrible thing called Palladium. If you ever see it pop up on your computer, saying it is from Microsoft, whatever you do DON"T CLICK ON IT. It completely takes over your computer on the guise that it is a friendly anti virus program. What it does is make it so you can't get into your computer even through safe mode.

Thank goodness for a friend who is a computer geek (If you don't have one of those friends, for heavens sakes get one). We spent a couple of hours getting that horrible thing out of my computer.

WHEW!!!

Things are back to normal again, but needless to say my day didn't turn out exactly like I planned.  So I guess the blog post I had planned will wait for another day. Need to take a few more photos and work on the shops.

Have a great Saturday.

farmhouse decor

I have always loved the simplicity and down home feel of farmhouse decor and since my daughter and her husband have just purchased an original 1800s farmhouse in Atlanta, I am really getting into it. So I've been doing a lot of web surfing looking for ideas.

I love the look of this new/old cupboard filled with wonderful old enamelware, ironstone, and advertising tins. This would be equally at home in a cottage environment.

rustic cupboards

This is one of my favorite looks for a living room. A sofa covered in ticking paired with simple pine tables and a corner cupboard.

I am in love with this bedroom. Absolutely love the subtle warm colors.

I am having lots of fun searching the southern back roads for lots more vintage farmhouse items. so check in with the shop often and be sure and let me know what your favorite finds are.

Have a great day and stay warm.

a rainy day

via squiglysplayhouse

 rain, rain, go away
come again another day

that is how i am feeling today. the skies are gray and the rain is falling. it's not like those soft summer rains where you sit on the porch drinking a glass of wine and reading a book. you know, the ones where you ran around with excited squeals as a child. this is a steady cold rain that makes you want to curl up in your bed and nap the day away. unfortunately i can't spend my day sleeping, so i am wishing for the sun to come out and making myself work.

I did finally pull out my vintage fabrics and get a start on sewing. I started out with some sweet farmhouse pincushions (mainly because I can't find mine), which I have begun to put in the shop.  Pillows will be following next.

I hope you have a wonderful day. YAWN!!! Thanks for visiting with me on this lazy day.

new year new finds

I'm always sad when the holidays are over and I have to leave my family and come home, but the new year always puts me in the mood to make changes and start fresh. I love brainstorming new ideas for my shops and getting back into the hunt for new finds. This new year is no exception. Yesterday I went to my first auction of the year and came home with a few new finds. This is going to be a great year in ImSoVintage and GossamerMemories  and I can't wait to share, with you, all that the coming year has to bring.
