goodwill genealogists

photo via goodwill genealogists

I was recently contacted by Kathryn of Goodwill Genealogists about some photos in Gossamer Memories. I loved being introduced to her site.

"Goodwill Genealogists are the  ”Secret Santas” or “amigo secreto” of genealogy."

Their mission statement:
"to digitize family history materials, making them more widely available to family historians.  We seek out family bibles, photographs, genealogies, letters, and other documents that contain information that might otherwise be lost.  Once digitized, we try to reunite the original sources to families and genealogical societies."

I love that they are trying to put lost treasures back into the hands of family members. As a vintage and antiques seller, I love to see pieces of history put in to the hands of people who really appreciate them, but always feel somewhat sad when I see family photos, bibles, and letters that have lost their way over the years.
I know how much I value my own family treasures.

Here are some samples of her finds

Daron and Stober family photo album

Franks Eubank family Bible

Mrs. Mitula Del Rio Texas

Mary Elizabeth Wheaton Ohio
Who knows, maybe you will find some of your own family history there.

Have a great Wednesday.

just like cinderella

Welcome to Gossamer Memories. What is Gossamer Memories you ask? Well, just like Cinderella, she has been the neglected stepsister hiding shyly behind the dust bin waiting to be noticed. Now it's time for her to don the ball gown and come to the dance.

Yes, she is the lovely sister shop to I'm So Vintage. She is a place where old dusty boxes in the attic produce softly mellowed family photos, lovely old prints, and intriguing maps from days gone by. A place to find buttons and findings to complete your art work and jewelry making. Soon, there will also be fabric samples for those of you who love to sew.
