High flight

High Flight

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, --and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of --Wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air...
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark or even eagle flew --
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

by John Gillespie Magee, Jr

RIP Neil Armstrong.

Thank you for what you did for our country and the world. I remember the day well when you walked on the moon. It was one of the highlights of my life, and I am sure you are touching the face of God now.

  4. I vaguely remember seeing the news coverage on tv for the first walk on the moon. I was only 4? Wasn't it July 1969? Trying to remember what they said on the news. I remember seeing it in black and white and everyone gathered around the tv set.

  5. What always impressed me was his humility. That was one of those moments when everyone remembers where they were, what they were doing.
