Instead, I am greeted with. "You go to yard sales, auctions, and thrift stores, how come you can't do this?"
HUH!!!
What did I miss?
Well, apparently what I missed was this.

A man bought this bowl for $3 at a tag sale in New York and set it on his coffee table for a few years. Turns out is was a 1000 year old bowl from the Northern Song Dynasty and it sold at auction for more than $2.22 million.
In my defense, I make it a point not to buy anything that is Made in China.
Seriously, what kind of defense is that?
SIGH!!!
Happy first day of spring.

HA! I love stories like that :) Happy first day of Spring to you too :)
ReplyDeleteIn Mom's defense, I ask myself that all the time. :D Thanks for the smile and Happy First Day of Spring to you, too.

I'm with you girl!Thank you for the little fun story. Now I can treasure hunt with renewed glee.Denise
ReplyDeleteHahaha Never would happen to me either. A few years ago a lady bought an old pillow at the local thrift store. She removed the stuffing to wash the cover and inside the stuffing were several hundred dollar bills. Sheesh!
ReplyDeleteLaura....you are hilarious.
ReplyDeleteI don't buy anything made in China either.
WOW---what a story.
Haha! I saw that too. Crazy, isn't it. And if I'd been the one who had that bowl, I would never have found out about it's true value. It would probably be a dog water bowl. lol
ReplyDeleteLife is so interesting is it not? LOL
ReplyDeleteCrazy!! Happy first day of spring!
ReplyDeleteI saw this too. Pretty unbelievable!
ReplyDeleteHappy First Day of Spring to you... had to laugh at your post and your husband's question!! I never find things like this, and never just keep to look at, it would have been found useful for something... so unlikely that it would survive more than a few months, Chez Moi!!! Great story, but the Chinese although they are buying up their history, do not have a great reputation for actually paying for it!! There is a couple in England who sold a large vase a couple of years ago and are still chasing the buyer for the money!!!! Anyway, more luck in the searching, and hugs from across the pond! janzi
ReplyDeleteCrazy! Amazing story. Even the Pickers can't top that!!
ReplyDeleteI remember when anything labeled Made in Japan was considered cheap goods -- now Japanese fabrics and electronics are all the rage and command high prices. Who knew?
Sheesh! (asking myself the same thing....)
ReplyDeleteWell it's funny, but NOT!! One thing for sure, your mother's still got it! LOL gotta love that
ReplyDeleteYeah, we go garage saleing all the time and my husband wonders the same thing.....
ReplyDeleteMaybe I should begin to buy "Made in China", you never know!
ReplyDeleteHA! That's just my luck, too.
ReplyDeletethat would happen to me, only my kids would break it:)
ReplyDeleteI like the details on the bowl and would never have guessed it was that old. I saw this story earlier today and thought I had better be more careful in checking items at sales.
ReplyDeleteLaura, what is so funny is my Mom said the same thing to me! Oh my! I wish I had that kind of luck!
ReplyDeletehugs,
Linda
LOL, that is hilarious! And I think your excuse is more than reasonable :O) Happy Spring and good luck at those yard sales.
ReplyDeleteLOL- Well, your Mom's mind is still good!!!!! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteWe all groaned and moaned over this today! I love your 'Made in China' comment though! How perfect! I read your entire post to my hubby...it was perfectly written! Happy Spring!
ReplyDeleteGood grief! Thank goodness noone broke it while it was per hed on his coffee table! My biggest bargain was a figurine of Royal Danish porcelain, bought it for the equivalent of a few cents at a yard sale and saw on ebay that it is worth a couple of hundred dollars! :-) Pam xx
ReplyDeleteWith my luck, I'd be the person who let it go for 3 dollars! Think the guy who got the 2 mil went back and gave the tag sale people any of it??
ReplyDeleteThat is a gorgeous bowl, but I sure wouldn't pay 2 million for it!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't believe it when I read this story in yesterdays paper online. We never have luck like that......LOL
ReplyDeleteCynthia
I've never had that kind of luck, but I know it's coming. :) Positive thinking!!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Marie
You are too funny Laura!
ReplyDeleteBig Hugs,
Susan and Bentley
I saw that news too. Doesn't even look old to me. And wonder who paid that much money for it. We can always hope that we will find something wonderful like that on our treasure thrift hunts......can't we? That's a huge part of the fun in thrifting. Have a wonderful weekend. xo
