sweet vintage children prints

I have fallen in love with sweet old prints depicting children and their stories. I have been busily adding some to Gossamer Memories and thought I would share some of them here today.

a special Etsy Finds Decor

This week's "Etsy Finds Decor" is a special one for me, as it features my daughter Cary Walker's home. I thought I would share it here with you and then you can also jump on over to enjoy the entire article.

Cary has created a lovely and tranquil space for her family, where she mixes handmade, vintage, and finds from nature.

Yes, it's Saturday, which means it's time to get a sneak peek at some of the items that will be appearing in my shop over the next week. With the waning of summer, my thoughts seem to be turning to cozy cottage things.

it's auction time

Well  here it is Friday again, already, and as you may know it's one of my favorite days of the week. Most people associate Friday with TGIF and the end of their work week. As my work week generally goes on seven days a week, I love Friday because it is the day of my favorite auction. Kendra Headen started her weekly consignment auctions a year ago and has created one of the most fun auctions that I attend. There is always a large variety of "stuff" for everyone and the family atmosphere is always entertaining. Especially since she has her great mom and her two teenagers working there.  So today, in honor of her first anniversary, I thought I would share some pictures of some of the fabulous goodies in tonight's auction. As you can see there is always a lot. I wish I was a whole lot richer so that I could  outbid all those "high rollers". (insert big sigh here)

Lots of great things to be bidding on. I suggest you come on down and join us, but don't expect me to be cutting you any slack just because you're a first timer. It's every man and woman for themselves.

Hope you have a great Friday.

thrifty finds

Did a little thrifting today and thought I would share my finds. I will be adding them to my shop over the next few days. It's amazing how I start out to the grocery and suddenly find myself at the thrift store (nowhere in the vicinity). I think my van must take itself there.

enjoy your day.Pin It

a Prairie Seed wedding

Evie via yourfairytalewedding

My two wonderful daughters, Cary and Katy,  have recently opened a new shop on Etsy called prairie seed. They are both talented fiber artists who have successful Etsy shops, and who have now decided to combine their creative efforts in this new venture. Prairie Seed Dry Goods is devoted to handmade and vintage weddings and is starting to fill up with wonderful items for your wedding or to give to a new bride and groom.

All this focus on their new shop has peaked my curiosity about wedding finds. With that in mind, I created a beautiful treasury list this morning. Here are some of the featured items for an Autumn country wedding.

Of course I know I'm a little prejudiced, but my favorite is the headband or maybe it's the sweet model (also known as my granddaughter).

Have a wonderful day and I hope you will share your thoughts with me. Pin It

eco friendly art

Blake Snyder Eames and Claudia Kane Michler, who are one of the recipients of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government's EcoArt grants are currently working on their public art project titled "Made You Look". The pair are painting designs on several downtown storm drains in Lexington, Ky. The purpose of the project is to draw attention to the pollution of streams by what people are throwing into the storm drains. A side benefit of the project, is of course, the beautification of our downtown area.

I am especially proud of this project because Claudia, a family member, is married to my cousin, John Michler. John and Claudia have dedicated much of their time to retaining the historical integrity of our community.  To read more about this project read the entire article in The Lexington Herald Leader  and be sure to watch for their beautiful work when driving around downtown.

If you love eco friendly artwork here are some samples of some of the many finds on Etsy.

Woodland Park Art Fair

This week, instead of featuring a Kentucky artist, I thought I would instead focus on a local art event. The AFB Art Fair in Woodland Park in Lexington, KY is this weekend August 21-22. This is the 35th year for this fabulous juried event, which draws artists from all over the country and hosts approximately 65,000 visitors over the two days. Wow, quite an event. Here is a sampling of what you might see.

fabulous fabric finds

I was reading one of my favorite blogs Bloesem yesterday and found an article on a fabulous fabric designer Denyse Schmidt. I absolutely love the retro feel with a modern twist that her fabrics have. She also has beautiful paper goods and quilts that you will want to see.

Of course, there are always some wonderful fabrics on Etsy. Here are some of my favorites.

1) Flower Power Fat Quarter Bundle by Jennifer Paganelli from Pieces of Pine

2) Sandi Henderson Fabric, Meadowsweet from Fabric Worm

3) Japanese Echino Ni-Co Fabric by Etsuko Furuya and Robert Kaufman from Fabric Shoppe

4) feedsack fabrics from Apron 1955

It really makes me want to get out my sewing machine and start creating again. Sigh!!! One of these days I'm actually going to have time. In the meantime I can't wait to see your creations.
