vintage decor around the world

As I have so many awesome international customers, I thought it would be interesting to do a series on how people around the world incorporate vintage into the  decorating of their homes. Today I am featuring a home from South Africa. The owner writes the fabulous blog LoveMadeMeDoIt. If you haven't checked this blog out, you will certainly want to . It is a well written, interesting, personal blog, with fabulous photos.

Here are some great decorating ideas for anywhere in the world. It really is a small world after all.

the vintage vanity

Don't you just love when you can just be a girly girl ( this is for the ladies only, but my manly man followers can keep this in mind for the upcoming gifting season) Now those of you who know me well, know that I am a huge feminist, but that doesn't mean I don't love a pretty vanity as much as the next girl. It's a place that is all your own, where you can showcase and store all your special things, like jewelry, makeup, and perfume.

So with that in mind. Tah da!!! here are some vintage finds you might like for your own vanity.

lovely vanity tray
art deco powder jar

Well this has certainly put me in the mood to do a little primping. How about you, do you have a favorite item on your vanity?

fall cleaning time

I know that most people get the urge to clean house in the spring, but for me it has always been autumn that has prodded me into cleaning out and making way for the new. This urge not only applies to my home, but also to my business. That is why I have marked some items down and placed others in the sale section. I am ready for some new stock and this means some great deals for you. So check out ImSoVintage , you may be pleasantly surprised.

Just in time for holiday dinners and parties, this already well priced covered transferware tureen has been given a new lower price.

play time

Awe, I remember well those halcyon days of youth. Days that seemed to last forever, when your only requirement was to get up, eat meals that Mom made, and play or read to your heart's content. SO what's stopping you from enjoying a bit of that now. There's nothing greater and well made than vintage toys. That's why many of them have survived, even with the constant abuse of young children. I still have my Betsy Wetsy doll that I received for Christmas when I was five. I remember it as the best gift I ever got. I would pull it out to show you a picture, but unfortunately, she is in storage at the moment. BIG SIGH!!!

Here are a few items from ImSoVintage and GossamerMemories .

for the budding builder or architect
nothing like rocking to the oldies
a refresher course on the alphabet
a sweet baby doll

a great read
Do you have a favorite memory of a childhood toy? I'd love to hear about it.
Have a wonderful day and don't forget to take some time out to play.

paneling - to paint or not to paint

A few years ago I bought a home that had white painted paneling in the family room. The house dated back to the early 1970s, a time when paneling was typical in these rooms. Not being a fan of the paneled look, even when painted, I chose to fill in all of the grooves (a very time consuming effort) and then paint over with a new color. What I achieved were new flat painted walls. So much more satisfying to my personal taste.

Today I came across this  article  on Apartment Therapy on colorful painted wood paneling. It gives a whole new, more modern look to that outdated paneling and is another wonderful example of how we can recycle the old into a new updated look.

What do you think of these examples. I think they are fabulous and I especially love how they are paired with vintage furniture and accessories.

upcycling vintage furniture

How awesome to take an old possibly thrown away piece of furniture and upcycle it into an amazing "new" piece for your home.  Vintage is so cool in so many ways.

Amazing what a modern paint color can do.

Just a few great ideas to enhance your home, recycle an old soldier, and give you a fun cold weather project. The best part is these old pieces can be found at great prices at thrift stores and yard sales.

Have a fun Monday.

show me some pretty tools

We all have to have some tools around the house for those never ending repairs and fix up jobs and well let's face it most of them aren't real pretty. Plus where are you going to store them so that you can actually find them when you need them. This article from Apartment Therapy seems to fit the bill.
