treasure hunting at flea markets

how many of you love to treasure hunt at flea markets? raise your hands. hmmm. well, okay, i can't really see you, although when i was a little girl i was convinced the people on TV could see me. thank goodness i was wrong about that.

being a vintage and antiques dealer, i love to rummage through flea markets. it's a great way to spend a warm spring day and i always come home with treasures for my shop and my home. Here are some ideas to remember before heading out.

1) a rolling fold up grocery cart is a great way to transport your finds while roaming about.
2) wear sunscreen, hat, and comfortable shoes and clothes (you really don't have to be a fashion plate)
3) most dealers are prepared to haggle so have a price in mind.
4) take as much cash as you're prepared to spend.
5) unless it's a unique must have item, look around a bit before purchasing.
6) don't forget you have to get your purchase home, so don't buy a large bureau if you are driving a     VW beetle.  (this is one of those your eyes are bigger than your car things)

and of course if you don't like to or don't have the time to spend, there are people like me who love to do it for you and load our shop up with lots of goodies.

English Country Garden

today I am imagining an English country garden. You know the one. fresh flowers growing in abundance outside the perfect English country cottage. lazily walking through the garden in your big straw hat, snipping flowers and placing them in your vintage gathering basket.

Easter, baby chicks, and grandkids

Just in time for Easter, my daughter's family got their first shipment of baby chicks. If you have been following my blog, you know that they purchased an historical farmhouse in Atlanta and will be doing some urban farming. Gathering their own eggs will be a part of that experience. The kids are loving the tiny newborns and I can't wait to go down in a couple of weeks to see them all.

I saw this posting from Apartment Therapy tonight and wondered how you all feel about exposed brick. I personally love it. I think it adds amazing character to a room.I especially love the look of old brick. Perfect backdrop for vintage decor.

today has been such a lovely spring day. warm weather and a soft breeze. what could be prettier than a simple white vase with some fresh spring flowers. i think i will treat myself and head out to the garden now.

it's a french country afternoon

for some reason i am feeling very french country this afternoon. it may be that once again we are under a tornado watch, and like dorothy i want to be blown away to somewhere magical. only, unlike dorothy, i prefer to land in the french countryside where i can enjoy some of these beautiful spaces.
